Looking for examples of floral arrangements?

I%26#039;m not a large fan of flowers, other than orchids and lily-of-the-valley. I%26#039;ve seen tasteful arrangements done with ivy and other leaf plants in place of flowers, but I can%26#039;t seem to find any pictures on the internet.

Anyone know where I can find some pictures of floral arrangements sans the flowers?

The other day I walked by an arrangement of flowers that included this type of plant that had little white flowers the size of my fingernail with 4 or 5 petals all hanging off a string like vine. can anyone tell me what this may be?

I have also worked 4 years as a florist and you have the say in what you want. You won%26#039;t be screwed, they want to help and will work with you no matter your budget.
Reply:Do contact a few florists or look on-line to see what flowers are in season. This helps to keep costs down. If there is a Farmer%26#039;s Market in your area start going a few months before your wedding . Find a vendor you like. In our area there are a lot of flower peddlers that have beautiful bouquets for about $8.00 %26amp; that is for the most extravagant flowers and they are already arranged. Buy some vases check out the dollar store and less expensive stores like Target. Just keep in mind that this is something that will be thrown away or given to your guests to enjoy or perhaps given to a nursing home.
Reply:Your best bet is to tell three florists your budget and ask them what they can do for you. Once you pick your flower homey, then just sit back and trust them. You have enough to worry about....

Reply:what colors are in your wedding, i would just try to go with them and you dont need the florist to tell you what you need, just pick what you like and then you can decide how you want then arranged, i just took petals of each flower color and plavced them on my tables at the reception and it only cost me 50 for the flowers for the reception so do fret. Reply:Go to your local florists and ask them to let you look at their wedding books. You can find arrangements that you like and then do them in your wedding colors. It is fun to look through the books and you will get lots of ideas.
Reply:Roses and orchids are expensive, carnations and daisies usually aren%26#039;t. Keep it all simple, if it%26#039;s a church wedding, you%26#039;ll need something for the alter, but usually you can transfer those flowers to your reception site, if you like.....

Check into silk flowers too, you may know someone that can do your flowers up for you, buying flowers from a hobby store or a discount store.....

Reply:Ok this is just my opinion, but I have always thought lilies were more tasteful for a wedding than roses. They are less common and look very nice in an arrangement. See what your budget can afford, when all is said and done, any flower looks nice when they are neatly and tastefully done. Good luck!

Reply:ive heard (other than vday) roses are the least expensive for weddings. i can%26#039;t say for sure, i meet with my 1st florist tomorrow. i%26#039;m going to at least 3, and i would recommend that. one being a grocey store. my friend had her flowers done at a grocery store, and they were SO beautiful and the price was good. you need some ceremony arrangements- maybe 2. flowers for you and attendants, parents, ushers, people who do readings. you don%26#039;t need flowers on your cake table (some people have a flowers arch). you don%26#039;t NEED flowers on pews, you can use bows! some churches already have these. also, daises are inexpensive and pretty. you don%26#039;t nee flowers for centerpieces at reception, either, there are plenty of less expensive alternatives. p.s. if you know someone who can arrange flowers, you can buy 100 stems of roses from costco for like $85!!
Reply:im not sure where you are but im from sydney australia and i paid $990.00 for my flowers.

i have a large bouquet of white lillies and red roses and my maid of honour and 2 bridesmaids had small bouquets made up of red and white roses. (their dresses were red).

i also received a tiny basket of red and white roses for the flower girl to hold as well as a hair piece made up of the same roses to go around her hair.

i got 6 botton hole flower things (forgot what they are called!!!) for my hubby, best man and 2 grooms men, the page boy and my fater inlaw and a corsage for my mum.

they also had 3 HUGE flower displays at the church and a flower arrangement on every second pew of the church along the aisle.

i thought all that was pretty cheap!!!!!

the reception place looked after the table arragements which was included in their costs.

Reply:I always buy flowers from Costco (if you have a membership)- you can get 2 dozen roses for $14. They also have wedding packages available online that can be ordered for your special day. Quite affordable and good quality in my opinion. Check these packages out. Good Luck!

A friend who owns a flower shop died yesterday. Where do I get the funeral arrangement?

I been buying flowers every saturday from this local family owned flower shop for the past fifteen years or so. Throughout the course of my purchasing at the flower shop the owner and I have became close friends. She passed away yesterday. Should I send a funeral arrangement from their own shop or from another? Let%26#039;s face it, people notice these things even in times of mourning. You may ask yourself, Don%26#039;t you think they%26#039;ll be too busy planning the funeral to be worried about your stupid arrangement? They have workers, other than the immediate family that assist in putting the arrangements together. I%26#039;m in a pickle!

Either they%26#039;ll be too worried or hassled or feel that you%26#039;re unsympathetic if you order from them, yet if you order from somewhere else, you%26#039;re giving another business money and they may feel insulted that for the one time you%26#039;re buying FOR them, you didn%26#039;t get it FROM them.

Honestly, I think the former is much more likely. Get it from somewhere else, because they may just feel extra pressure in a time of mourning to make a flower arrangement for THEMSELVES. Ask a friend who lives nearby where they usually get flowers, and if it%26#039;s a good place.

However, I do think the image is a bit misplaced, beautiful as it is. The rest of the poem talks about flowers, bouquets, petals, and this reference to a flavor and tastebuds just seems out of place.

But overall, I loved the poem! The images are lovely, and you really get a sense that this is one unique woman who really captured your attention.

We are having a destination wedding and have planned a local reception here in NY. We are having a champagne buffet brunch at a very nice restaurant along the Hudson River. The restaurant is very plain and neutral so I that is why I went so bold with the flower colors. Since I can%26#039;t really decorate the restaurant what else can I put on the tables to tie in with the flower colors. The arrangements are really tall and slendor. Cut it the size you need, and cut a piece (several if needed) of felt to cover the back so the wire won%26#039;t scratch the surface it will lay on. Also I am restricted some what because I live in a deed restricted community which means I can not post signs outside my home about my business and only have signs on my car for a period no longer than 4 hours according to neighborhood rules. If you sell booze, beer or any other alcoholic beverage, you will need a license, unless you are out sourcing with someone who already has a license. Even though you may not need a license, you may need to register your business for tax purposes.

Good place to start would be to talk to your local Chamber of Commerce. If there is none, try your city alderman or the mayor%26#039;s office.

She can put it anywhere on the line in between [view picture]. Now there%26#039;s 3 flowers. What arrangements work and dont? Anything works when you circumscribe it, right? The problems continue for 4, 5, 6+ flowers. The goal is to find one generalization that will work for all of them. I am doing my own flower bouquet arrangements with silk flowers for my wedding. I have white and different color lilac silk flowers. Our colors are lilac and silver. I have an example I would like for the girls:

Reply:It doesnt matter who has more color.. just make sure yours is a little bit different than the rest. (Mine was just Bigger than the others, and had more detail!!)
Reply:I find that having an assortment of colors in a bouquet gives it character and is more natural. Flowers in nature aren%26#039;t always uniform in color.

The bouquet I like best for the bride is the one with the most purple in it. I assume the bridesmaids are wearing lilac dresses, so the bouquet with the most white would look best for them. It%26#039;s a nice contrast
Reply:My friend had her wedding with the same colors, they used silk flowers as well. They had white, the lilac purple and a darker purple for the flower colors, and the main color of the wedding was the lilac purple. I think if the girls are wearing purple you should have a little more white in their flowers, and more purple in yours since I am assuming you are wearing a white dress, this will help compliment the dresses rather than the flowers seeming like they are blending in to them too much. It%26#039;s also always a nice touch to through a different shade of your main color in the flowers just to make the flowers %26quot;pop%26quot; a little more.

Reply:This is a great time to get a winter arrangement...buy left over [on sale] silvery,,,glittery,,, foliage ...and add brilliant blue and shiny objects like glass beads and white and blue candles put it all on a mirror laid flat or arrange in a clear bowl or vase... let your imagination go
Reply:well silver candles are the best for winter months because they have a way of fighting depression. Nope I%26#039;m serious. Why you think its used so much at christmas time? Its shiny and has a secondary cause. But you can use white as well its pretty for snow as well. Winter candles are wonderful, some scents are now available such as snow or pine cone, pretty smells. Don%26#039;t used pine cones or pine needles after the second of January for winter decoration, its bad luck. My suggestion would be red berries, nuts, apples, things of this nature. You want to use winter %26quot;fruits and nuts and berries%26quot; to stay in your theme. Actually the only time you should use flowers in a flower arrangement should be about the time that they start to bloom to the time that they naturally die. You can go to a store and get status, and ucylupus and other things of this nature to go with your berrys and nuts and things. But for winter you want to keep a winter theme, there are ways to dress it up to make it look pretty and I%26#039;m sure you can come up with dozens of ways.White Teeth

Find a photograph of your favorite arrangements.

Find a container that you like that is a similar shape.

Start off learning with silk flowers. Go to michaels or even Walmart and buy the same size and texture and colors of the floral arrangement you want to COPY.

Get the floral foam for silk flowers, its harder and thicker.

Practice setting the flowers in like the photo. Add the green silks first then do the biggest and tallest flowers next. Then fill in with the smaller ones.

Repeat until you have taught yourself. I don%26#039;t like lessons because it takes from your own creativity, WHICH YOU DO HAVE!

Most of all, have fun doing it, don%26#039;t get frustrated. Have some wine and play your favorite music.

After you learn how to arrange with silks, you can buy the floral foam, which will hold water, soak the foam and arrange the flowers you bought or brought in from the garden, it will be a snap.

For vase flowers, you don%26#039;t need foam.

I know of the diaper cake, you could put flowers on it :). Here is a site with different diaper cakes, then the mom can keep them. I think it is adorable. If you used newborn diapers, I am sure you could make a bunch of little ones.

Around here, at least, there are a variety of independent florists who can fix ya up. Even our local supermarkets often have a section offering a variety of floral arrangements, house plants, and of course, dried flower arrangements. Another place to check, though I hesitate to recommend chain stores, is JoAnn Fabrics - their larger stores have a selection of artificial flowers from which you can create your own unique arrangement.

Do they live in an apt? house? love yard work? there is so many options if they have a yard to set out plants. You can stick your flowers in there during the reception. That way they stay fresh and decorate the table. Some brides like to save their bouquet or give it to a family member who perhaps couldn%26#039;t attend. They%26#039;ll use an inexpensive artificial bouquet for the toss.
Reply:They have those bulb type things that slide onto the end of the stems that hold water and don%26#039;t leak because they have a seal on top. Check with a florist or florist supply store.
Reply:I have heard of wrapping the stem ends tightly in saran wrap, then using a circle of fabric and lace to wrap that in turn. Cinch ithe opening with a rubber band, and wrap with some pretty ribbon.

Reply:You could use fake flowers, which would solve that problem all together. Otherwise, you could wrap the ends of the flowers with a ribbon that matches your wedding theme/colors.

I recommend the fake flowers. You can make a seperate bouquet for throwing. This way you can keep your flowers as a sentimental souviner from your special day. Many craft stores sell fake flowers that look real. I know my sister-in-lay bought her%26#039;s from Franks Nursery and Garden, but it went out of business near my home (close to Chicago). Hobby Lobby and Michael%26#039;s are also great stores to check out. My mom made all the bouquets and boutineer%26#039;s for my 3 sibling%26#039;s weddings and they looked so beautiful!!

Reply:You know that green foam that floral arrangements have at the bottom? They make balls of that for bouquets. You can stick the flowers into the dampened foam, have a bouquet attachment on it, and wrap the whole dang thing in wide ribbon. The end result is absolutely beautiful.

Just ask around at work for a scrap cardboard box for your flower arrangement. Unless you work for a jerk, the person in charge (or a co-workker) should be more than happy to set you up.

Maybe you know of a place to snoop around on your own for leftovers (when the boss is on break).

Set the vase in the box, then carefully wrap some newspaper or copy paper loosely around the blooms (top of the vase) to support it.

Reply:The flower arrangement should be in proportion with the container not the table. Formal arrangements used to be 1 and 1/2 x%26#039;s the hight of the vase, urn or ewer. There doesn%26#039;t seem to be a stead fast rule any longer.

However, centre pieces should always permit for easy eye contact between people, so no one should have to look arround the arrangement to see another person. Also, bear in mind how the table is being set and permitting room for dishes, etc.

Sometimes a tiny vase or old perfume bottle with a single flower or rose bud in front of each person will work very well.

Maybe you should try over-the-counter allergy medication first, and if it doesn%26#039;t help, just ask your boss to move it. She shouldn%26#039;t be too offended if you explain why.

If they are bouquets get bouquet holders from Michaels or Walmart..put greenery around the back first, then main flowers..roses or carns, then fill in with babies breath. For table arrangements put oasis (water holding foam type )in container, again put greens in first, then major flowers in a wagon wheel type pattern, then fill in with babies breath or greens or something small
Reply:I put flowers together for two weddings. It depends on what you are looking for. I am not a crafty person but one wedding I was in and I was just trying to get the bride not to have a breakdown. The other was my best friend%26#039;s wedding and I helped her sister in law (who was a florist). But I did put together the bouquet.

First wedding...unopened roses. white and red. We put five white roses in the middle and surrounded it with red roses...we used wire and wound each one together. Then we used wide white and red ribbon to cover the outside wire and curled it with the scissor. We tied to together the white roses first and then the read onto the outside until we had three rings around. That is a very classy look.

Second wedding. Bride ordered flowers...florist went out of business two days before wedding and would not do wedding (actually I think they went bankrupt). Did give us whatever in stock that we wanted. We filled up two buckets of flowers. We had carnations, baby%26#039;s breath, roses, etc. Her bridesmaids dresses were dark pink for the maid of honor and light pink for everyone else. We actually went to the dress store and asked them for extra fabric from the dresses (I had to order a size 16 for my chest but my skirt size is 8) we had a lot of fabric from my skirt (plus they took off three four inches from the bottom). Friend%26#039;s Mom sewed little flower pouches and glued white lace on the outside edges and everything was beatiful. I wish I had pictures.

You can do anything as long as it goes with the event. If it is early day casual, you might want to have litte baskets or just hand tied ribbons on flowers. If it is formal, you want it to be more uniform and tighter. Just look in the bridal magazines and see what you like.

Reply:i helped my friend with her flowers for her wedding. we went to the dollar store and got the sand toys that have the holes in them for sifting and place the flowers in them then put those in cute baskets we got the put ribbon on them. its cheap and cute

It all depends on the party at the time

I prefer low cut arrangements small so you can have nice talks across the table if your trying to keep it quiet and to the person next to you like a formal party try long stems in a high vase so you can%26#039;t see the person across the table so you don;t have to talk across just to the person next to you

Low cut flowers that are nice and cheap carnations you can get any color and high cut if your not worried about seasons i love lilies or tulips

Reply:Keep in mind that artistically, one item on a surface looks better than two, and three look better than two or four. Two of anything to look mitchy-matchy is not pleasing. Either one in the center or one with two smaller ones to complement.

If you%26#039;re referring to a low coffee table, one glass vase is pretty so you can observe the water level halfway up. The flower arrangement should not be so tall that it obstructs the people%26#039;s view. You don%26#039;t want to have to peer around an arrangement in order to make eye contact and carry on a conversation.

My coffee table holds a fat pillar candle in a hurricane vase with a couple of large shells to one side to offset it. (there%26#039;s your three) Or put a candle and two staggered pictorial books. Or a natural African Violet and two staggered books. Later in the Fall or for Thanksgiving I just lay a natural harvest wreath in the center (big so it comes to 10%26quot; of the edge) and I may put the pillar candle in the center but not unless we%26#039;re sitting around in there to enjoy the candle glowing. Consider a seasonal wreath and change it through the year.

Sometimes the stack of coasters works as the third item.

The difference between a fresh bouquet and a fake arrangement is huge! Mess up on the fresh...oh well..so it%26#039;s gone in a week. A silk flower arrangement takes lots of time and equipment to complete. You need the flowers, the green foam, the special floral cutters, the stakes, and the green tape.

Each piece has to be individually cut from the stem, attached to the stake, wrapped with tape and inserted into the foam.

Generally this is done with highest flowers in the center with graduating sizes outward. However, some more contemporary arrangements have a-symmetrical styles.

To to the FTD site and look at how some of the Floral arrangements were made by the professionals and see if that helps.

Reply:It%26#039;s funny -- I just saw the most beautiful arrangement, and this question came up! If using fresh flowers, use pink roses with magnolias; I%26#039;ve never seen such a unique arrangement. You can do the same with silk flowers, but of course you%26#039;ll need the green or white sytrofoam at the bottom of the vase to hold them in place. For the real flowers, but them in about 1/2 vase of water with a crushed aspirin -- no kidding, that aspirin makes them last much longer!

I have an amazing centerpiece that I grabbed from a company dinner. The foliage is exceptional and there is even an orchid in there with new growth on the...stick (can you tell I%26#039;m just a beginner?).

Anyway, should I stick them in dirt, or stick them in water when the piece starts to die?

Flowers Birthday Flowers Sympathy Flowersi doubt it. you usually need super fresh cuttings to propagate them. try using a rooting hormone, which you can get at home depot. recut the end of a STURDY stem, without flowers. dip it in water, and then in the rooting hormone. then insert the stem into a pot of moist soil, and put the pot in a clear plastic bag. i really doubt it will root, but you can always try =)

ps. dont wait for them to start wilting or turning brown. if you decide to root them do it asap.Soles

I have found that bleeding heart tend to wilt rather quickly. Ones that I cut in the afternoon were wilted by evening. As far as being toxic to other flowers, I%26#039;m not sure....daffodils are.
